Here I sit in my quiet home with dozens of ideas flowing through my mind.  It is so interesting how clear one’s mind becomes when fasting and the body’s functions are not weighed down with processing food.  I have been ruminative over conversations I have had with others over the years, stories I have heard, literature I have reviewed. Everything seemed to point to the same thing.. get active, get writing.  It was at this point I decided to revise that rumination into forward movement.

So…

Here I am, having just created my first site dedicated to my craft and I am already feeling lighter, better, more focused, and thankful that I finally did something I have been wanting to do for me.  Something that others have told me could benefit them as well.  There will be a variety of things created on this site, but most of all, a place where I can sit back and allow my fingers to massage the keys while my animated thoughts take form on this screen.

A place to share my journey as a mother who wants to give my children (biological & bonus) the world and neighboring galaxies.  To share my journey as a spiritual seeker, always looking for avenues to increase my knowledge and hone my abilities of being still, meditating, listening, settling into a balanced state, cleaning myself from my corruptions, and letting go.  To share my journey back to health through my physical, emotional and nutritional cleansing.

What the?

I recently read somewhere (a Jeff Goins publication) that in order to be considered a writer, well, you must write!  I know there are several stories that I am still being told to share & there is no better way to do that than to begin to truly find and develop my voice.  Thus, this site was created.  I am seeking to channel my energy into the goals I have set before myself, including the seven books and business plan that are not going to write themselves.  [Side note: create that machine that translates your thoughts into writing, but only when you want it to!]

So, who are you… really?

Depends on who you ask; Annette or MaiMuna. You can simply call me, Mai (Mah-EE).

A local San Diegan, Annette McKinney is a mother, bonus mom, author, early childhood educator and bona fide bibliophile. Who knew that a 3rd grade teacher (falsely) accusing her of plagiarizing a poem she wrote, foreshadowed emerging writing talent! After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education at California State University Los Angeles, she acquired her Master’s in Business from Ashford University. Something she carries from her time actively teaching young children for many years is how important it is to develop a love of reading, as this skill opens new worlds for emerging learners. Exposure to varied cultures and novel experiences early on in life are pivotal to children’s ability to relate to the world around them. Books are curiosity’s pathway, and she has a map! I am here to memorialize the moment my life took a turn and I started being realistic about and focusing on my goals every day, one step at a time.  -AM 12/2021

“An organization which claims to be working for the needs of a community – as SNCC does – must work to provide that community with a position of strength from which to make its voice heard. This is the significance of black power beyond the slogan.” – Kwame Toure
